SOA provides special education and related services for students in grades 9 through age 21 whose IEPs require that the entire school day be in a special education program. SOA operates as a nonpublic school offering individualized academic, vocational, and therapeutic programs designed to facilitate growth in each student in cognitive and emotional areas. All SOA students will have the opportunity to participate in life skills development, vocational lessons, extracurricular activities, and health & wellness programs.
SOA operates as a Full Day Special Education Program serving students who typically qualify for special education services under the categories of:

Our school has been developed to maximize teaching English, language arts, social studies, math and sciences in a manner consistent with each student’s ability. Credits earned meet the Maryland State Department of Education’s requirements and will be transferred to the student’s LEA for graduation and issuance of a diploma.
Our multidisciplinary school team includes clinicians, behavior specialists, and special educators in consultation with parents and families. Additionally, the school programs are supported by a registrar, nurse and administrative personnel.
Students can be referred to SOA Nonpublic Special Education Program by their local school system’s special education placement office when emotional and/or behavioral problems are preventing academic progress in the regular academic settings. If the student is in need of a high level of structure and intensive support services, a referral to SOA is appropriate.
Silver Oak Academy provides education year-round. Students are required to attend school during the regular school year (September to June) and may be eligible for Extended School Year (ESY) during the summer months (July to August). Although the school operates every month of the year, students enjoy regular vacation periods.
